In this series we at AFL Dynasty Forum will be taking a closer look at the Keeper/Dynasty league relevance of some of the 2016 AFL Draft class. Whether your coming off a premiership win, embarking on a rebuild or anywhere in between, the rookie players you chose next year can make or break your future.

Unless you snag a Jaeger O'Meara or Joel Selwood type that becomes a fantasy relevant player before they're even out of nappies, you'll be making an investment for the future, an investment that won't likely give a return for 3 to 5 years.

Over the coming weeks we will profile some of the players we think will give you best return on that investment starting with the 2016 No.1 pick Andrew McGrath.

Let me preface this by sharing with you my fantasy moto "DEFENDERS WIN PREMIERSHIPS!!" And in the No.1 pick of the 2016 AFL Draft Andrew 'O Canada' McGrath you have yourself one hell of a Fantasy defender. (check out all of the 2016 Draftees Fantasy positions here: https://afldynastyforum.board-directory.net/t1-2017-player-positions

It's not often a ball winning, running defender with the poise and smarts of McGrath come along. With ball in hand he makes good decisions, without ball in hand.... he gets ball in hand!

McGrath didn't start the year in many top 5 draftees conversations but rocketed up the rankings in his last TAC cup game before the Under 18 Championships. In Sandringham's victory over Gippsland, McGrath amassed a whopping 44 possessions and 19 tackles, a sign of what the Canadian native can do when moved up the ground. He then impressed at the Championship averaging 124 Fantasy points. McGrath only played 4 TAC Cup games through the season but any doubts about his top two credentials were SMASHED in one half of brilliant footy. In a best on ground performance, he owned the second half of the TAC Grand Final picking up a lazy 28 touches.

Andrew McGrath is everything you should be looking for in your first pick of the draft, the 4 P's.... Position, Potential and oPPortunity.
Many are comparing him to Jason Johannisen and rightly so but I think his long term Fantasy output will look more like the man he's going to be groomed to replace, Brendan Goddard. He'll get game in 2017 but expect him to be a regular in your Dynasty team in 2019.

Use your number 1 pick on him with comfort!!
